New Grains recalls bakery items over undeclared allergen concerns

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

New Grains Gluten Free Bakery, based in Spanish Fork, Utah, has announced a recall of several bakery products due to undeclared allergens. The affected items include breads, bagels, cookies, and croutons that may contain eggs, tree nuts, soy, and milk without proper labeling. This poses a risk for individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to these ingredients.

The specific products under recall are Artisan White Bread, Artisan Multigrain Bread, Artisan Sourdough Bread, Artisan Cinnamon Raisin Bread, Blueberry Bagels, Cinnamon Raisin Bagels, Plain Bagels, Multigrain Bagels, Artisan Sourdough Ciabatta Rolls; Chocolate Chip Cookie; Dye-Free Frosted Sugar Cookie; Frosted Sugar Cookie; Coconut Macaroon Cookie; Pecan Caramel Bar; Brownie Chocolate Chip Cookie; Artisan Seasoned Croutons; and Seasoned Bread Crumbs. These items were distributed in Utah between April 7 and April 21 under lot numbers 90–107.

Packaging for the recalled breads and croutons consists of clear vacuum-sealed plastic bags while cookies are in regular clear plastic bags. Despite being labeled as "gluten-free" with the New Grains brand name in various colors such as red or purple among others, they failed to disclose the presence of the aforementioned allergens.

The issue was identified when it was found that products containing these allergens were not properly labeled. Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported so far.

Consumers who have purchased these products should refrain from consuming them and return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries regarding this recall notice can contact New Grains Gluten Free Bakery at 801-980-5751 during business hours from Monday through Friday.

This recall is conducted with oversight by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
