U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers recently facilitated the transfer of a Mexican national, Miguel Sifuentes Jimenez, to authorities in Mexico. Sifuentes, 36, is wanted in Mexico for charges related to methamphetamine and firearms possession.

Sifuentes was handed over on May 22 at the Stanton Street Bridge, which serves as an international boundary between the United States and Mexico. His latest illegal entry into the U.S. occurred on May 3, 2021, near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. He was subsequently processed for reinstatement of a prior removal order and released by the Luna County Detention Center after serving time.

His initial removal from the United States took place on January 28, 2013, following an order issued earlier that month. His criminal record in the U.S. includes several convictions in California: felony robbery in 2008 with a sentence of 364 days in jail; misdemeanor aggravated battery/spouse in 2009 resulting in a 60-day sentence; and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant in 2011 with a two-year sentence.

On May 12, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers encountered Sifuentes at Eddy County Detention Center while he was serving time for aggravated battery against a household member/strangulation or suffocation. ICE lodged a detainer and arrested him upon his release that day.

Sifuentes faced charges of alien inadmissibility and being an alien previously removed as an arriving alien—a charge classified as an aggravated felony—on May 13.
