Memorial Day serves as a time of remembrance and gratitude for those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the United States. President Donald J. Trump has issued a proclamation designating May 26, 2025, as a day of prayer for permanent peace.
In his proclamation, President Trump stated, "Memorial Day is a sacred day of remembrance, reverence, and gratitude for the brave patriots who have laid down their lives in service to our great Nation." He emphasized the importance of remembering those who have given everything for the country.
The proclamation highlights the enduring pain experienced by America's Gold Star Families, whose loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice. "Their loved ones selflessly gave everything to protect our sovereignty," President Trump noted. He called upon citizens to join him and the First Lady in prayer for comfort and protection.
The Congress has requested that Memorial Day be observed as a day of prayer for permanent peace since 1950. Additionally, Public Law 106-579 designates 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day as a National Moment of Remembrance.
President Trump urged all Americans to unite in prayer at 11:00 a.m. local time on Memorial Day and observe the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. He also requested that flags be flown at half-staff until noon on all government buildings and naval vessels throughout the United States.
"In honor of all of our fallen heroes," President Trump proclaimed this observance while requesting citizens display flags at half-staff from their homes during the customary morning period.
