U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Buffalo, Rainbow Bridge border crossing, arrested a man from New Jersey with an active warrant issued by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
On May 26, CBP officers encountered Malakai McRay, a 22-year-old United States citizen from New Jersey, as he entered the United States on a commercial bus. During their examination, CBP officers discovered that McRay had an active arrest warrant through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). He was taken to a secondary inspection area for further verification. It was confirmed that McRay had an outstanding warrant for Negligent Manslaughter with a Weapon, classified as a second-degree felony.
Buffalo Port Director Gaetano Cordone commented on the situation: “Our CBP officers work hard in identifying and intercepting wanted criminals through vigilance and thorough research.” He emphasized the importance of strong relationships with local law enforcement partners in bringing fugitives to justice.
After processing and confirming the arrest warrant, McRay was handed over to the New York State Police as a Fugitive from Justice. He is currently held by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
