Ismail J. Ramsey, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California
Craig H. Missakian has been officially sworn in as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California. The ceremony took place this morning with Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg administering the oath of office.
Missakian's appointment was made by Attorney General Pam Bondi, following 28 U.S.C. § 546. In his statement, Missakian expressed gratitude and a commitment to public service: “It is an immense honor to serve as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of California. I’m humbled to have this opportunity to return to public service and to work on behalf of the residents of this remarkable district, and I thank Attorney General Bondi." He emphasized his dedication to collaborating with law enforcement partners on various issues including violent crime, investment fraud, elder fraud, and safeguarding technology infrastructure.
Missakian acknowledged Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick Robbins for his leadership during his tenure: “I also want to thank Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick Robbins for his leadership and his service.”
His career includes extensive experience in both federal and state prosecution roles. From 2001 to 2010, he served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California where he handled high-profile cases involving public corruption, organized crime, and cybercrime. Notably, he worked on United States v. Chi Mak, an espionage case resulting in convictions related to stolen military secrets intended for China—a case that earned him the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service.
Additionally, Missakian led a major investigation into a health care fraud scheme involving over $100 million in fraudulent Medicare claims.
From 2014 to 2016, he served as Deputy Chief Counsel on the Select Committee on Benghazi’s investigation into the terrorist attack that killed four Americans in Libya.
In private practice, Missakian focused on complex commercial litigation among other areas.
He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
