CBP reminds Great Lakes boaters of reporting obligations

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Boating season has commenced, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's (CBP) Office of Field Operations is reminding pleasure boaters in the Great Lakes region about reporting requirements. Operators of small pleasure vessels arriving from foreign ports or places must report their arrival to CBP immediately upon landing in the U.S.

To facilitate this process, boaters can use the CBP ROAM application, which is available for free on Apple App and Google Play stores. This app allows boaters to report their U.S. entry via personal smart devices or tablets and serves as an Alternative Inspection System that meets legal requirements for face-to-face inspection according to 8 CFR 235.1, with some exceptions.

Alternatively, boaters can continue reporting their arrival by telephone to the nearest CBP office at their point of entry. Additional information on reporting requirements is available online.
