Oshkosh resident indicted on federal obscenity and child pornography charges

On May 28, 2025, Richard G. Frohling, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced a federal indictment against David E. Dejanovich of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The 52-year-old faces charges related to the receipt of obscene visual depictions involving the sexual abuse of children in April 2024. These charges are violations under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1466A. Additionally, Dejanovich is accused of receiving child pornography as an individual required to register as a sexual offender under state and federal law.

The obscenity and child pornography charges carry severe penalties. Each count involves a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment and could extend up to 40 years. If Dejanovich's status as a sex offender is proven by the government, he could face an additional mandatory imprisonment term of ten years consecutive to the obscenity charges. He also faces potential fines up to $250,000 per count and would continue his obligation to register as a sexual offender.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse since its inception in May 2006. The project leverages resources from federal, state, and local levels to identify offenders exploiting children online and rescue victims.

The investigation was conducted by the Oshkosh Police Department with support from the United States Office of Probation and Parole in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble will prosecute this case.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation and not proof of guilt; Dejanovich remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
