Tywanna Johnson, a 29-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been indicted by a grand jury on charges related to an incident aboard a Metro Bus in January 2025. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Chief Michael Anzallo of the Metro Transit Police Department announced the indictment, which includes charges of robbery while armed, assault with intent to rob while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon—knife, assault with significant bodily injury while armed, and felony threats.

The case is scheduled for a status hearing on July 14, 2025, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia before Judge Robert Salerno.

According to government evidence, the incident occurred on January 22, 2025. At approximately 11:30 p.m., Johnson was on Metro Bus #3303 near 15th Street NE and Duncan Street NE when she allegedly snatched a phone from another passenger's hands. Although the passenger retrieved their phone, Johnson reportedly brandished a knife and demanded it again while threatening harm. As the passenger attempted to flee to the front of the bus, Johnson allegedly stabbed them in the lower back. She was arrested at the scene.

The case is under investigation by the Metro Transit Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jasmine Dohemann is prosecuting.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
