U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), alongside state and federal law enforcement, arrested Daikerlyn Alejandraa Gonzalez-Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Venezuelan citizen, in Dallas on May 27. This arrest followed the execution of a state warrant for felony manslaughter.

Gonzalez was involved in an incident on May 25 at Oak Grove Park, where she was operating a personal watercraft at high speed near the shoreline. The watercraft collided with a kayak occupied by 18-year-old Ava Moore, resulting in Moore's death. After the collision, Gonzalez fled the scene with her passenger.

Upon returning to Oak Grove Park, the passenger stayed with witnesses and was interviewed by the Grapevine Police Department. Meanwhile, Gonzalez left in a vehicle with Maikel Coello Perozo, a 21-year-old Venezuelan national who has been charged with hindering apprehension. Additional state charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

"This criminal alien and her boyfriend will account for the tragic accident that ended the life of a young woman who exhibited enormous potential," said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson. "ICE Dallas will remain steadfast in our commitment to arresting and removing criminal aliens who pose threats to the safety of our communities."

Following their arrests, ERO Dallas lodged immigration detainers with the Grapevine Police Department against both Gonzalez and Coello. They are currently undergoing removal proceedings under the policies of the Immigration and Nationality Act as aliens present without admission or parole.

"Our partnerships with law enforcement across jurisdictions are key during these types of investigations," stated ICE Homeland Security Investigations Dallas Special Agent in Charge Travis Pickard. "This investigation will continue to be driven by facts, evidence and a firm commitment to justice. The arrests of these two illegal aliens reflect the diligence and professionalism of our law enforcement team."

Gonzalez entered the United States illegally on September 28, 2023, without inspection or parole by an immigration officer but was processed by U.S. Border Patrol with a Notice to Appear before being released on recognizance. Coello arrived at Camino Real Port of Entry without authorization on January 22, 2023, and was released pending an immigration hearing.

The investigation involved officials from ERO Dallas, HSI Dallas, Texas Department of Wildlife, Grapevine Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Office of Attorney General, Dallas Police Department, and Dallas U.S. Marshals office.
