State Department outlines reorganization plans aimed at improving efficiency

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Over the past 25 years, the domestic operations of the State Department have significantly expanded. This expansion has led to increased bureaucracy and costs, with fewer tangible results for Americans. Since assuming office, the Secretary of State has emphasized that the Department must operate "at the speed of relevancy." In April, a comprehensive reorganization of the Department was announced to better meet this objective.

The next step in this process was taken today with a notification to Congress detailing how these changes will be implemented. The plan presented to Congress is described as "the result of thoughtful and deliberative work by senior Department leadership." Feedback from lawmakers, various bureaus, and long-serving employees was considered in its development.

According to officials, the reorganization aims to create a more agile State Department. The goal is to enhance its ability to promote America's interests globally while ensuring safety for Americans worldwide.
