West Virginia man sentenced to 10 years for firearm violation

Wesley Shane Haggerty, a 37-year-old resident of Cabins, West Virginia, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentence was handed down in Elkins, West Virginia.

Court documents reveal that deputies from the Pendleton County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance involving a firearm. Upon arrival at the scene, officers arrested Haggerty after a brief foot chase. At the time of his arrest, Haggerty was found with a pistol. His possession of firearms is prohibited due to seven prior felony convictions and two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions.

Following his prison term, Haggerty will be subject to three years of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives along with the Pendleton County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
