Javaris Latrey Johnson and Thomas Anthony Perry, both residents of York County, South Carolina, have been sentenced to federal prison terms for their involvement in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy. Johnson received a sentence of over 12 years, while Perry was sentenced to more than eight years. Both men pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to the possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
The court heard evidence that in August 2022, a codefendant sold around 5,000 pills to a confidential informant. This transaction led agents to investigate a property in York County suspected of being used for manufacturing illicit fentanyl pills. On October 19, 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the location and discovered Johnson and Perry along with two other codefendants inside a trailer on the property. The trailer was identified as a clandestine lab.
Upon securing the area for search operations, agents uncovered multiple bags of powder and containers holding over 150,000 pills. In total, these substances amounted to over 29 kilograms of fentanyl. Additionally found were approximately 1,890 grams of cocaine, 690 grams of methamphetamine, and 1,500 grams of heroin. Authorities also seized several pill press machines and various drug paraphernalia alongside significant amounts of cash.
United States District Judge Sherri A. Lydon imposed sentences on both defendants: Johnson received a term of imprisonment lasting 151 months followed by supervised release; Perry was sentenced to serve 97 months with subsequent supervised release as well. The codefendants had been sentenced earlier in April.
