Chairman John Moolenaar of the House Select Committee on China has formally reached out to Almonty Industries, Inc. with a request for detailed information regarding their ability to supply tungsten to the United States. Tungsten is identified as a critical mineral crucial for U.S. defense, notably in ammunition and aerospace components.
The correspondence emphasizes the strategic importance of securing tungsten supplies, as there is no domestic production currently available. The inquiry seeks insight into how Almonty's operations might reduce U.S. reliance on Chinese imports for this vital resource.
"Tungsten is an essential input in a wide range of defense systems, including armor-piercing munitions, aerospace components, and advanced electronics," stated Chairman Moolenaar. "It is also a mineral over which the United States remains heavily import-dependent—most notably on sources tied to the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This dependency poses a significant risk to our defense industrial base and warfighting readiness."
The letter further requests information about Almonty's reserves, production capabilities, and current commercial partnerships, especially those involving Chinese entities.
Chairman Moolenaar reiterated the Committee's dedication to challenging China's control over critical mineral supply chains and ensuring that America's industrial base can access necessary resources for self-defense.
