The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently held an in-person listening session to discuss the Health Technology Ecosystem Request for Information (RFI). The event aimed to explore how health technology innovations can improve patient care and increase efficiencies within the healthcare system.
The session gathered various stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, technology companies, data providers, networks, healthcare providers, value-based care organizations, and payers. These participants shared insights and best practices on leveraging digital health technologies to reduce fraud, decrease administrative burdens, and deliver higher-quality care to millions of beneficiaries.
During the meeting, CMS reiterated its commitment to several initiatives intended to establish foundational infrastructure for a healthcare system aligned with Secretary Kennedy’s vision to "Make America Healthy Again." These initiatives include creating a dynamic national provider directory that is interoperable, implementing modern identity verification processes on Medicare.gov, expanding the availability of CMS’ Blue Button 2.0 patient access API, transitioning CMS’s Data at the Point of Care pilot to general availability, and enhancing CMS’ participation in trusted data exchange.
These efforts are part of CMS' broader modernization agenda aimed at accelerating digital health innovation. The agenda also focuses on strengthening data security, enhancing program integrity, and driving operational efficiencies across Medicare, Medicaid, and federal marketplaces.
CMS is inviting all interested parties to submit their comments on the RFI by June 16, 2025.
