Garret James Walkos, a 25-year-old resident of Red Oak, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a minor in Indian Country. This offense carries a potential penalty of thirty years to life imprisonment and a fine up to $250,000.
According to the indictment, Walkos engaged and attempted to engage in sexual acts with a minor under the age of 12 from June 2023 until March 2024. The crime took place in Latimer County on the Choctaw Nation Reservation within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Criminal Investigations. The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report has been ordered.
The final sentence will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after considering relevant guidelines and statutory factors. Until then, Walkos remains in custody with the United States Marshals Service.
