Lincoln man sentenced for intent to distribute methamphetamine

United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods has announced the sentencing of Mark Coon, a 55-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. On May 20, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Coon was sentenced for possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard imposed a sentence of 120 months' imprisonment on Coon. Following his release from prison, he will serve a five-year term of supervised release as there is no parole in the federal system.

The case originated on October 4, 2023, when narcotics investigators approached Coon at a gas station in Lincoln. He was found carrying a bag containing more than 110 grams of methamphetamine. Purity testing conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory confirmed that the bag contained at least 100 grams of pure methamphetamine. During an interview with investigators, Coon admitted his intention to sell the meth and disclosed that he had sold approximately two and one-half pounds of meth to seven customers over the preceding month.

The investigation into this case was carried out by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force.
