U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Oswego Station have apprehended a 35-year-old man from Mexico who was wanted on a felony warrant in Kansas. The arrest took place on June 3, when agents received information that Guillermo Lugardo-Valerio was sought in Johnson County, Kansas for a parole violation and identified as an illegal alien.
Agents spotted Lugardo-Valerio driving early in the morning, conducted a traffic stop, and confirmed his identity through an immigration inspection before taking him into custody. Further investigation revealed that Lugardo-Valerio had been convicted of multiple felonies, including criminal threat and assaulting a police officer, dating back to his arrest and conviction in Olathe, Kansas in 2022.
“This arrest can be attributed to our agent’s situational awareness and their diligence in locating illegal aliens,” stated Deputy Patrol Agent in Charge James Napoli. “The dedication our agents have is relentless to securing our borders and this arrest ends with a violent fugitive brought to justice.”
Lugardo-Valerio has been handed over to the U.S. Marshals Service, Northern District of New York, where he awaits extradition to Kansas. It is important to note that the charges are accusations at this stage; he remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
