Trevon Timothy Vines, a 30-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has entered a guilty plea to one count of illegal possession of a firearm. The plea follows his arrest on March 15, 2025, in the District of Columbia.

Court documents reveal that officers from the Metropolitan Police Department conducted a traffic stop near 1820 7th Street NW after noticing a traffic violation. During the stop, officers observed several open containers of alcohol and asked all vehicle occupants to exit.

Vines was found seated in the front passenger seat holding a cup similar to others seen by the officers. As they attempted to handcuff him, they detected what appeared to be a handgun in his front left jacket pocket. The firearm was recovered and later identified as stolen from a gun dealer in White Plains, Maryland.

Further investigation showed that Vines is a convicted felon with multiple prior convictions. At the time of his arrest, he was legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under both federal and D.C. law and lacked a license to carry or own a firearm in the District.

The case is being investigated by the FBI Washington Field Office, ATF Baltimore Field Office, and the Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole is prosecuting the case.

This prosecution is part of "Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful," an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime in Washington, D.C., by focusing on gun violence and prioritizing federal firearms violations for tougher penalties and detention for violators.
