U.S. Senator Jerry Moran, chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, led a hearing to consider two nominations for positions at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The nominees are Cheryl Mason for Inspector General and Don Bergin for Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Legislative Affairs.

Senator Moran emphasized the importance of having a Senate-confirmed Inspector General, stating, "The IG’s work is essential to identifying areas where VA is falling short, and this committee’s job would be much harder without the help of an Inspector General." He noted that Cheryl Mason has been appointed to high-level positions within the VA by both President Biden and President Trump.

Addressing transparency issues within the VA, Senator Moran remarked, "Regardless of which party is in the White House or which party has control in Congress, the Department of Veterans Affairs has never been as open and as forthcoming as they should be." He expressed hope that Don Bergin would detail his plans to improve transparency at the VA during his testimony.
