U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Area Port of Seattle have arrested a Canadian citizen, Michael Yang, 37, who was wanted on an active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) warrant for child rape in Mason County. The arrest took place at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after Yang arrived from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Following his arrest, Yang was handed over to the Shelton Police Department. Brian Humphrey, Director of Field Operations for the Seattle Field Office, commented on the arrest: “CBP protects this nation against a variety of threats. At times that includes bringing those charged with serious sex crimes to justice.” He added that such arrests help remove suspected predators from streets and enhance community safety.

The NCIC serves as a centralized automated database facilitating information sharing among law enforcement agencies about outstanding warrants across various offenses. CBP officers have previously used NCIC data to apprehend individuals wanted for crimes including homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion.

As America's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency, CBP's mission involves protecting national security while facilitating lawful travel and trade. With over 65,000 personnel working on land, air, and sea operations across the country.

Criminal charges remain allegations until proven otherwise in court.
