U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, alongside Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, recently visited Alaska to promote President Trump's energy agenda. The delegation aimed to enhance Alaska's resource potential through various engagements in Anchorage and the North Slope.
Secretary Wright expressed his support for President Trump's mission to unlock Alaska's resources, stating, "I was proud to join my colleagues, Doug Burgum and Lee Zeldin, in Alaska to help fulfill President Trump’s mission of unleashing Alaska to create a safe, prosperous, and opportunity-filled future."
The officials participated in a roundtable discussion with local leaders in Anchorage. They also held a town hall meeting in Utqiagvik with community members who shared their views on the impact of the administration's policies. Charles Lampe from Kaktovik praised the president's actions: “The people of Kaktovik have been prisoners in our own ancestral homelands because the refuge was placed on top of us... But on day one, Trump had the heart and the wherewithal to be able to right this wrong.”
During their visit to Prudhoe Bay, they toured key energy facilities including Pump Station 1 of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and met international dignitaries from several countries. Secretary Wright highlighted the importance of oil and natural gas: “Today, oil is the largest source of energy on the planet... let’s double oil production.”
At the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, discussions focused on expanding resource development in Alaska. Secretary Wright noted significant interest in Alaskan natural gas: “The main thing we’re looking to get is people that want to buy Alaskan natural gas.”
The visit also covered President Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill,' which aims at increasing lease sales and implementing energy reforms.
