The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a statement condemning the violence and destruction caused by rioters in Los Angeles, California. The statement addresses claims by some politicians and media outlets that the riots were peaceful.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, saying, “While the mainstream media and far-left politicians have lied point-blank to Americans that these riots in Los Angeles have not been violent, the American people can see with their own eyes the truth.” She described actions taken by rioters including throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails at law enforcement, setting cars on fire, defacing buildings, assaulting officers, and burning American flags. McLaughlin called for an end to what she termed "the violent targeting of law enforcement."
The DHS statement highlights concerns about misinformation surrounding the events in Los Angeles and urges Democrat politicians to denounce the violence.
