Today, the Secretary of Defense has given authorization for Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees to be detailed to support the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) border security and interior immigration enforcement efforts. This decision involves qualified DoD civilians temporarily assisting in critical ongoing operations.
The Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness will collaborate with DHS to manage these temporary assignments. The aim is to bolster efforts in protecting national borders and enforcing immigration laws.
According to Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell, "Protecting our homeland from bad actors and illegal substances has been a focus of the President and of the Secretary of Defense since Day One of this Administration." He emphasized that allowing DoD civilian employees to assist DHS would enhance progress made by service members towards achieving national security objectives.
