Api responds to epa’s proposed renewable fuel standard

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has responded to the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed Renewable Fuel Standard "Set 2" rule. This proposal aims to establish volume obligations for the years 2026 and 2027. Will Hupman, API Vice President of Downstream Policy, expressed appreciation for the EPA's timely release of the proposal.

"We thank EPA for releasing a timely proposal that will get the Renewable Fuel Standard program back on track and bring much-needed certainty to the marketplace," Hupman said. He added that API looks forward to reviewing the rule and collaborating with the administration to achieve an outcome beneficial to all stakeholders and American consumers.

Additionally, the EPA issued a final rule revising the 2024 cellulosic volume obligation. In developing this proposed rule, API led a coalition of stakeholders from agriculture, ethanol, and biofuels sectors to provide recommendations on advancing the Renewable Fuel Standards.
