The Department of Defense has reported the death of a soldier involved in Operation Inherent Resolve. Staff Sgt. Saul Fabian Gonzalez, aged 26 and from Pullman, Michigan, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Erbil, Iraq. The cause was a non-combat related incident currently under investigation.
Staff Sgt. Gonzalez was part of D Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
