U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Anzalduas International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas, intercepted $815,475 in unreported U.S. currency on June 16. The discovery was made during a routine outbound inspection of a 2025 Honda Odyssey driven by a 44-year-old male U.S. citizen.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo Port of Entry commented on the seizure: "Our CBP officers’ continued vigilance led to this major currency seizure. These outbound interceptions are key in disrupting criminal networks and limiting their access to illegal profits."

The CBP seized both the vehicle and the currency, while Homeland Security Investigations special agents have launched a criminal investigation into the matter.

Although carrying more than $10,000 is not illegal, failing to declare it upon entry or exit from the U.S., or concealing it with intent to evade reporting requirements, constitutes a federal offense. Such actions can lead to seizure of the currency and potential arrest. Individuals may petition for its return but must prove that both its source and intended use were legitimate.

CBP remains America's largest law enforcement organization, focusing on safeguarding national security through comprehensive border management efforts.
