Today, the United States and Sweden formalized a new partnership with the signing of the Agreement on Technology Safeguards Associated with U.S. Participation in Space Launches from Sweden. Known as the U.S.-Sweden Technology Safeguards Agreement, this accord establishes a legal and technical framework for U.S. commercial space launches from Swedish spaceports while ensuring sensitive technology is properly managed.
The agreement aims to open new commercial opportunities for the U.S. space industry and strengthen cooperation between the United States and Sweden in the space sector. "This Agreement protects sensitive U.S. technology and sets the standard for how others should use such sensitive technology in the conduct of satellite and rocket launches from foreign locations," stated a release accompanying the announcement.
U.S. State Department Senior Official performing the Duties of Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Brent T. Christensen, along with Swedish Foreign Minister Stenergard, signed this bilateral agreement.
The arrangement underscores both nations' commitment to deepening their collaboration in an increasingly critical area, ensuring that technological advancements are safeguarded while promoting international partnerships.
