Jonathan D. Ross U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas

Larry Douglas Cossey, a resident of Russellville, Arkansas, has been sentenced to 22 years in federal prison. The sentence comes after his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The announcement was made by Jonathan D. Ross, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. United States District Judge James M. Moody, Jr., who presided over the case, also imposed five years of supervised release following Cossey's prison term. It is important to note that parole is not available in the federal system.

Cossey was indicted on June 4, 2024, by a federal grand jury on multiple charges including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm during drug trafficking. On February 3, 2025, Cossey pleaded guilty to conspiracy involving 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The investigation into drug activities in the Russellville area revealed that Cossey sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant twice in January 2023. A traffic stop conducted by Russellville Police on April 10, 2023, led to the discovery of various illegal substances and paraphernalia in Cossey's vehicle and safe.

Another traffic stop on June 16, 2023, resulted in the finding of additional drugs and firearms in Cossey's possession. His sentence was enhanced due to his history as a career offender with several serious drug convictions and firearm offenses.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives led the investigation with support from local law enforcement agencies including the Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Russellville Police Department.
