U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Dallas has deported Joaquin Gallegos, a 33-year-old Mexican national, to his home country where he is wanted for homicide. The removal took place on June 18.
Gallegos was arrested by the Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) Dallas Fugitive Operations Team on March 25 during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Carlsbad, Texas. He was served with an expedited removal order under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
“This foreign fugitive has been returned to his home country to face accountability for very serious crimes,” stated ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Dallas acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson. He emphasized that North Texas and Oklahoma will not be safe havens for fugitives evading law enforcement, adding that ERO Dallas will locate those hiding in the U.S. and hand them over to international law enforcement partners.
The arrest warrant for Gallegos was issued by Zacatecas, Mexico officials on December 17, 2024. Previously, Gallegos had entered the U.S. illegally near Laredo, Texas on November 19, 2020, without undergoing immigration inspection or admission. He was apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol near Laredo and subsequently returned to Mexico.
ICE encourages the public to report crimes and suspicious activities through their hotline at 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or via their online tip form.
