Pittsburgh man indicted for firearm possession as convicted felon

A Pittsburgh resident has been indicted by a federal grand jury for violating federal firearms law, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The indictment charges Raymont Tyrone Dillard, 36, with possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon on December 30, 2024. Federal law prohibits such possession by individuals with felony convictions.

The potential penalties for this offense include a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison and fines up to $250,000. Sentencing will depend on the severity of the offense and Dillard's prior criminal record.

Assistant United States Attorney Mark V. Gurzo is handling the prosecution. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, conducted the investigation that led to the indictment.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021. This strategy emphasizes building community trust and legitimacy, supporting organizations that prevent violence, focusing enforcement priorities strategically, and evaluating results.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
