The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced the distribution of over $126 million in refunds to Fortnite players who were charged for unwanted items. This move is part of a broader settlement with Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, regarding deceptive practices that led players to make unintended purchases.

In a statement, the FTC revealed that it is reopening the claims process for affected gamers and their parents or guardians. This follows the agency's 2023 settlement with Epic Games, where the company agreed to pay $245 million. Consumers eligible for compensation have until July 9, 2025, to submit their claims through www.ftc.gov/fortnite.

Previously, in December 2024, the FTC issued an initial round of refunds totaling more than $72 million across 629,344 payments. The current round will see 969,173 checks and PayPal payments sent out on June 25 and June 26 to those who filed valid claims. This brings the total amount refunded by the FTC related to Epic's billing practices to nearly $200 million.

Refund recipients had selected their preferred payment method when submitting their claim forms. Those receiving checks should cash them within 90 days as noted on the check itself. For PayPal recipients, payments must be redeemed within 30 days.

For questions about payments, consumers can contact Rust Consulting, Inc., at 1-833-915-0880 or email admin@fortniterefund.com. The FTC emphasizes that it never requires individuals to pay money or provide account information for refunds.

Additionally, interactive dashboards are available providing state-by-state breakdowns of refunds in FTC cases. In total for 2024, actions by the FTC resulted in over $339 million returned to consumers nationwide.

The FTC's mission includes promoting competition and protecting consumers through education and enforcement efforts. It cautions against demands for money transfers or promises of prizes under its name. More information on consumer protection topics can be found at consumer.ftc.gov and fraud reports can be submitted via ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
