A Minnesota man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, followed by five years of supervised release. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme.
Jeremiah Robert Wiberg, aged 42, pleaded guilty in March 2025 to one count of failure to register as a sex offender. The case was presided over by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.
According to court documents, Wiberg is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) due to a federal conviction in 2007 for receipt of child pornography. He has been on federal supervised release for eight years and had multiple revocations from this supervision.
After serving his sentence and being released from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in Louisiana on November 8, 2023, Wiberg traveled to Billings, Montana but failed to check in with United States Probation or register under SORNA upon arrival. His location remained unknown until it was discovered that he spent several weeks in Montana before leaving the state without registering.
On December 27, 2023, law enforcement learned that Wiberg was residing in Minnesota. He was located at a VFW in Forest Lake, Minnesota and arrested on a federal warrant for violating his supervised release without having registered there either.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office handled the prosecution with investigative support from the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Probation Office, Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
