U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge have intercepted narcotics valued at over $639,000. The incident occurred on June 24 when officers discovered alleged cocaine concealed in a vehicle attempting to enter the United States from Mexico.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez of the Hidalgo Port of Entry commented on the seizure: “This drug seizure is a direct result of our officers’ vigilance and unwavering commitment to protecting our communities. Their dedication plays a vital role in keeping dangerous substances off our streets and ensuring public safety.”

The vehicle, a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, was selected for inspection by CBP officers using nonintrusive equipment and a canine unit. A subsequent physical inspection revealed 20 packages of alleged cocaine weighing 47.93 pounds (21.74 kg). The street value of the narcotics is estimated at $639,938.

Following the discovery, CBP's Office of Field Operations seized both the narcotics and the vehicle involved. Texas Department of Public Safety officers arrested the driver and launched a criminal investigation into the matter.
