Jason R. Coody, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida
Camerino Perez Perez, also known as "Squirrel," a 41-year-old resident of Levy County, Florida, has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The indictment charges him with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by an illegal alien. This announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Perez is set to appear for his arraignment in federal court before United States Magistrate Judge Midori Lowry on July 1, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. in Gainesville, Florida.
If found guilty, Perez could face up to fifteen years in prison.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam Hapner.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt during trial.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation involves resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
