Dixie County man faces federal meth trafficking charges

Jason R. Coody, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida

Ronald Carl Peavy II, a 49-year-old resident of Old Town, Florida, has been indicted on federal charges for possessing with the intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine. The announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Peavy is set to appear for arraignment before United States Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville, Florida on July 1, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. If found guilty, he could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The investigation leading to Peavy's indictment was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys James A. McCain and Adam Hapner are prosecuting the case.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has violated federal criminal law and does not constitute evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt during trial proceedings.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat illegal immigration and dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations while safeguarding communities from violent crime. This initiative combines resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
