Guatemalan national sentenced for illegal reentry after prior deportation

A Guatemalan national, previously deported after a 2014 drug trafficking conviction, has been sentenced for illegal reentry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced that Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, 46, will face deportation once again following his sentencing.

Court records indicate that Alvarado Aguilar was convicted in November 2014 in federal court in Connecticut on charges of conspiracy to import large quantities of cocaine and heroin. He was deported on July 1, 2015.

On April 10, 2025, Immigration Officers identified Alvarado Aguilar through an automated biometric fingerprint match from the National Crime Information Center. He had been arrested in Rhode Island for driving with a suspended license and obstruction. Subsequently, he was charged with illegal reentry in U.S. District Court in Providence on May 9, 2025, and pleaded guilty on May 29, 2025.

U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy sentenced him to time served since he had been detained in federal custody since May 2, 2025. An immigration detainer has been filed against him.

Assistant United States Attorney Peter I. Roklan prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations by utilizing resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
