Vice Admiral Joanna M. Nunan and Rear Admiral David M. Wulf have announced their departures from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), ending their tenure focused on enhancing the midshipman experience at Kings Point. Their final duties included presiding over the Class of 2025’s Commencement Exercises.
During their time, Nunan and Wulf played key roles in securing a long-term agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and developing a plan for campus modernization, positioning Kings Point to continue fulfilling its national-security mission.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy expressed gratitude for their service, stating, "The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, its critical mission, and its extraordinary midshipmen fully deserve the kind of dedication and commitment the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent brought to their roles at Kings Point."
Vice Admiral Nunan reflected on her tenure by saying, "I have long believed that I am the luckiest admiral I know. I have been privileged to play a role in the lives of some of America’s most inspiring young people as they became our finest future mariners."
Captain Anthony J. Ceraolo will serve as Acting Superintendent during the search for new leadership. A Change of Command ceremony will be scheduled once new leadership is appointed.
