Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has announced the termination of the "Invent2Prevent" program, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) initiative criticized for its high cost and limited impact on preventing terrorism. The program, which incurred expenses exceeding $1.5 million, was deemed wasteful and politically charged.
The funds were reportedly directed towards "The Eradicate Hate Global Summit," an organization promoting diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), and LGBTQ ideology in K-12 schools. Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary, stated, "President Trump was given a mandate by the American people to eliminate wasteful government spending, and that is exactly what we are doing."
McLaughlin further emphasized the misuse of public money by asserting that the program supported "an openly partisan and political organization." She added, "Politicized NGOs like Eradicate Hate have been siphoning away taxpayer dollars for far too long. We are ending the grift."
The Invent2Prevent initiative was initially designed to counter terrorism but instead focused on creating inclusive school environments and addressing DEI and LGBTQ issues with students. By terminating this program, Secretary Noem aims to save taxpayers approximately $1.52 million.
