A man from Puebla, Mexico, has admitted to unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei announced that Fidel Ramirez-Mancilla, 34, pleaded guilty to this offense.
Court records indicate that Ramirez-Mancilla was previously convicted of an aggravated felony involving sexual penetration with force. He was deported from the United States in December 2011 and had no authorization to return. Authorities encountered him again on May 19 north of the Rio Grande River.
Sentencing will be imposed by U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera on September 17. Ramirez-Mancilla could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. He remains in custody until sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by Customs and Border Protection, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Angel Castro is handling the prosecution.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
