Arkansas man sentenced to ten years for armed bank robbery

Robert J. "Bob" Troester U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma

Brian Keith Mays, a 58-year-old from Arkansas, has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the crime. U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced the sentence following Mays' conviction on both charges by a federal jury.

The charges stemmed from an incident on July 5, 2024, when Mays used a pistol to rob FNB Community Bank in Harrah, Oklahoma. He escaped with $12,123 after threatening bank tellers. The FBI's investigation included reviewing surveillance footage and tracking the getaway vehicle through its license plate number, which led them to Mays.

On June 30, 2025, U.S. District Judge Bernard M. Jones handed down the sentence of 120 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Judge Jones highlighted the dangerous nature of the crime and its impact on victims during sentencing.

The case was investigated by multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI's Oklahoma City and Fort Smith Field Offices, Harrah Police Department, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, and Oklahoma City Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel Gridley and Drew E. Davis along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Laney Ellis.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and violent crime through coordinated efforts from various Department of Justice resources.
