Former Rochester teacher pleads guilty to child pornography charge

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Kevin Burns, 45, from Irondequoit, New York, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor. This offense carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The plea was entered before U.S. District Judge Meredith A. Vacca.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford stated that the case began on November 5, 2024, when the New York State Police executed a search warrant at Burns' residence due to his uploading of a child pornography file to Bing Image. During the search, electronic devices were seized including a computer which contained over 450 images of child pornography. Some images depicted violence against children and the sexual exploitation of an infant or toddler.

The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police under Major Kevin Sucher and the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Mark Grimm.

Sentencing for Burns is set for October 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., presided over by Judge Vacca.
