Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that Luis A. Gama, a 38-year-old native of Mexico, pleaded guilty to the charge of re-entry of a removed alien on June 26, 2025. This is in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
Court documents reveal that Gama was located in Tangipahoa Parish around April 10, 2025. He had been previously deported to Mexico on September 10, 2019.
Gama's sentencing hearing is set for July 23, 2025, before United States District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown. He faces a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America. The initiative uses the Department of Justice's resources to address illegal immigration and eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. It combines efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their investigation work on this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit manages the prosecution.
