Mexican citizen indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania has announced that Edelicio Castillo-Ramos, a 33-year-old citizen of Mexico residing in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, was indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal reentry into the United States.

Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the indictment claims Castillo-Ramos was previously removed from the U.S. on July 12, 2012, through Calexico, California. He allegedly reentered without obtaining legal permission and was encountered again on June 20, 2025, in Clinton County, Pennsylvania.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aiming to address illegal immigration and combat transnational criminal organizations. The operation utilizes resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.

If found guilty, Castillo-Ramos faces a maximum penalty under federal law of two years imprisonment, a fine, and supervised release following imprisonment. Sentencing will be determined by a judge based on federal sentencing statutes and guidelines.

It is important to note that indictments are only allegations; all individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
