Ecuadorian man charged with illegal re-entry into United States

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo has announced the arrest of Segundo Juan Maynato-Guaman, also known as Segundo Juan Mainato-Guaman, a 46-year-old Ecuadorian citizen. Maynato-Guaman faces charges of re-entering the United States after being removed, which could lead to a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas M. Testani is overseeing the case. According to the complaint, on June 25, 2025, Border Patrol Agents in Rochester conducted a traffic stop involving Maynato-Guaman at Brockport-Spencerport Road and Washington Street. Upon questioning about his citizenship, he identified himself as Ecuadorian and presented a New York State identification card with the name Segundo Mainato-Guaman. He admitted to being in the U.S. illegally without documents. Records revealed that Maynato-Guaman was deported from the U.S. in December 2009.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators. The operation utilizes resources from the Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Maynato-Guaman appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Colleen D. Holland and remains detained pending further proceedings.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol under Patrol Agent-in-Charge Juan Ramirez, Jr.'s direction.

It is important to note that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
