Alison J. Ramsdell U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota
United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has announced the sentencing of Eddie Bromwich, a resident of Lower Brule, South Dakota. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte sentenced Bromwich to six months in federal prison for assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer. The sentence was delivered on June 30, 2025.
Bromwich, aged 45, will also undergo two years of supervised release following his prison term and is required to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charges stem from an incident on February 6, 2024, when Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers stopped Bromwich for speeding on the Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservation. During the stop, Bromwich resisted commands and engaged in a physical altercation with the officers. The confrontation resulted in one officer sustaining a broken finger.
Bromwich was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024 and found guilty after a three-day jury trial in April 2025.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Office of Justice Services at the Lower Brule Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Zachrison and Troy Morley handled the prosecution.
Following his sentencing, Bromwich was placed into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
