Leah B. Foley United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts | Department of Justice
Two Lynn residents, Lexus Perez and Denys Gonzalez Hernandez, have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston on charges related to drug trafficking and firearms. The indictment includes accusations of possession with intent to distribute significant quantities of fentanyl, cocaine base, and methamphetamine. Both men are also charged with possessing a firearm in connection with drug trafficking activities. Additionally, Perez faces charges as a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The charges stem from a February 2025 search of their shared apartment in Lynn, where authorities allegedly found two loaded firearms along with 465 grams of fentanyl, 34 grams of cocaine base, and 21 grams of methamphetamine. Gonzalez Hernandez was arrested outside the apartment; officers reportedly discovered additional drugs on his person. Days later, Perez was apprehended at a hotel in Saugus after law enforcement executed a search warrant.
Perez has previous convictions for drug distribution and armed assault with intent to murder. His prior criminal history could result in enhanced sentencing if convicted on these new charges.
The potential penalties for the current charges include lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines. Specifically, the charge involving fentanyl distribution carries a minimum sentence of ten years up to life imprisonment and hefty fines. The firearm-related charge mandates an additional five-year sentence consecutive to any other punishment.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations involved in violent crime. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley along with other law enforcement officials involved in the operation.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip C. Cheng is handling the prosecution for this case under the Organized Crime & Gang Unit's jurisdiction.
As always, it should be noted that these are allegations at this stage; both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
