The President of the United States has issued an order to establish the "Make America Beautiful Again Commission." This initiative aims to address issues related to conservation, outdoor recreation, and maintenance of public lands.
According to the President, "the United States is blessed with vast beautiful landscapes, abundant natural resources, and a rich heritage of discovery by travelers and outdoorsmen." The administration plans to prioritize the conservation of national parks and outdoor areas for future generations.
The President highlighted problems such as mismanagement and neglect leading to significant deferred maintenance costs for the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service. Despite these challenges, he emphasized that conservation can coexist with economic growth. Since the signing of the Great American Outdoors Act, "the outdoor recreation economy has grown to $1.2 trillion in economic output."
Federal land management agencies are directed to ensure their policies promote responsible stewardship, expand access for recreation activities, encourage voluntary conservation efforts, cut bureaucratic delays, and recover fish and wildlife populations through collaborative efforts.
The commission will be chaired by the Secretary of the Interior with assistance from other high-ranking officials including members from Defense, Agriculture, Environmental Protection Agency among others. It will advise on conserving national treasures by facilitating interagency coordination on conservation efforts.
Recommendations will focus on improving water quality and availability while expanding access to various outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, hiking, biking among others.
The order also clarifies that it does not create any enforceable rights or benefits against any entity or individual.
"Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect: (i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency," states Section 5(a).
This initiative marks another step in addressing both environmental preservation needs alongside economic considerations tied into America's vast natural resources.
