On the occasion of the 14th Dalai Lama's 90th birthday celebrations, members of the House Select Committee on China have expressed their support for Tibetan Americans and Tibetans globally. Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) and Ranking Member Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) released a statement recognizing the Dalai Lama as "a global icon of peace, compassion, and wisdom."

The committee leaders highlighted concerns over Beijing's actions in Tibet, describing them as attempts at "cultural genocide" and interference in Tibetan religious traditions. They emphasized that "His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is an incredible force for peace, justice, and religious freedom."

Furthermore, they condemned the Chinese Communist Party’s actions against Tibetans both within Tibet and internationally. The statement reiterated that "the CCP has no place in the succession process of His Holiness" and urged Beijing to resolve issues concerning Tibet peacefully.
