The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is organizing a workshop focused on examining potential unfair or deceptive trade practices in "gender-affirming care" for minors. This event will bring together doctors, medical ethicists, whistleblowers, detransitioners, and parents of detransitioners to share insights based on research, expertise, and personal experiences.
Under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, the FTC has the authority to protect consumers from unfair or deceptive acts or practices. This authority may be relevant if there is evidence that medical professionals or others have failed to provide warnings about risks or have made false claims regarding the benefits and effectiveness of gender-affirming care for minors.
The workshop aims to assist the FTC in determining whether consumers are being exposed to false claims about "gender-affirming care" and assessing any harm they may experience as a result.
The event will be livestreamed and accessible to the public without registration. However, in-person attendance is by invitation only due to safety concerns. The event has reached capacity, and no further invitations are available. Those with invitations should arrive between 8:00 am and 8:30 am with valid identification for security screening.
