Connecticut man Alexander Marcano, 33, was sentenced to 69 months in prison followed by a five-year supervised release. This sentencing took place on June 26, 2025, and was presided over by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss. Marcano had previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl on December 9, 2024.
Court records reveal that on January 30, 2023, U.S. Border Patrol Agents stopped a vehicle near North Troy, Vermont, close to the U.S./Canada border due to erratic driving. Marcano was found as the front-seat passenger and discovered with an extraditable warrant from Connecticut related to a shooting conviction for Assault 1st Degree – Serious Physical Injury. At the traffic stop scene, agents found Marcano in possession of over 98 grams of fentanyl, more than 41 grams of cocaine base, above 75 grams of cocaine powder, a loaded pistol, cash exceeding $20,000 and drug distribution paraphernalia.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher acknowledged the joint investigatory work conducted by several agencies including the United States Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Lasher and Corinne Smith while Ian Carleton represented Marcano.
